The oldest continuously settled town in Nebraska, and now a base town: Offutt sits on its southern edge and much of the commercial work follows from it. Wind here. Bellevue sits in a riverside, low-lying area, which works out to roughly 110 mph under the code your town uses. Offutt carries US Strategic Command, the 55th Wing and the 557th Weather Wing, and it works one runway of about 11,700 ft. Federal rules call for the FAA to be notified of anything that breaks a surface rising 100 to 1 from the nearest point of that runway, out to 20,000 ft, so on the streets closest to the field a flagpole height is checked before it is chosen. The other Bellevue fact is water: in the spring of 2019 the Missouri put roughly a third of the base under and about half the runway with it, so down on the bottomland we set the footing and the hardware for ground that has been saturated before and will be again.
