What we do in Bellevue

How tall, for a Bellevue building

Downtown office and hotel frontage takes 35 to 40 ft to hold the tower line. Corporate campuses in Bel-Red and Eastgate, and the medical buildings around Overlake, land at 30 to 35 ft. Community and homeowners association entrances off the arterials are usually 20 to 25 ft, a height chosen to clear the street trees rather than to be seen from further off.

Flagpoles in Bellevue

Corporate Eastside: a compact high-rise downtown ringed within a few blocks by wooded single-family streets, with a large retail, medical and technology base behind it. We cover Bellevue and the King County area, including downtown and the Bellevue Collection, Bellevue Downtown Park, the Bel-Red corridor, Wilburton, Factoria, Eastgate, Bellevue College, Overlake Medical Center and the Meydenbauer Bay waterfront.

Wind here. Bellevue sits in a sheltered, heavily wooded suburban area, which works out to roughly 100 mph under the code your town uses. That figure decides how wide and how thick the pole has to be, so we check it against your address before we quote. Bellevue protects its trees by ordinance, and that decides where a pole can go. Anything six inches through, measured four feet up, is a significant tree; anything twenty-four inches through is a landmark tree; and both need a permit before they come down. So the fly zone gets planned around the canopy rather than the canopy around the flag. It matters more here than in most places because the city is about 39 per cent tree cover. Underneath, most of Bellevue is dense glacial till: slow to auger, superb once you are in it, and near enough watertight that an open hole can fill overnight and wants pouring promptly. Downtown is the exception to all of it, where tight sites and tower frontage leave no room to swing a boom — a scheduling problem rather than an engineering one.

Most of the people who call us from Bellevue are corporate headquarters and office towers, medical buildings, private and public schools, homeowners associations and community entrances, hotels, retail centres and places of worship.
