Eder Flag was founded in 1887 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It was family-run for generations and is today employee-owned, operating from a manufacturing campus in Oak Creek just south of Milwaukee, where the flags are sewn and the flagpoles are finished.

It grew into the biggest operation of its kind in the country. Eder makes the flags and the poles they fly from, along with the hardware, trucks, winches and foundation sleeves. That is why a pole and flag bought together actually fit each other.

Made in the USA, and it is not a slogan

Every flag and pole we sell is made in the United States. On federal, state and municipal work that is often a hard requirement, and we supply the documentation for it. For private clients it is usually the reason they called.

What actually makes a good pole

A flagpole is a long lever with a flag acting as a sail on the end of it. Four things decide whether it lasts.

• How wide it is at the bottom. The pole tapers, thick at the ground where all the strain is and thinner at the top. That width at the base is what holds it up in wind. Height tells you nothing about strength.
• How thick the metal is. Two poles can look identical and one has noticeably more aluminium in the wall. That is usually where a suspiciously cheap pole saved its money.
• The wind figure, measured with a flag up. A flag pulls far harder than bare metal, so that is the number worth comparing. Eder publishes both, and we quote the flying one.
• The finish. Satin is the standard silver aluminium and the best value. Anodized colours cost more and hold up for decades without maintenance, which pays for itself near salt air.

Poles meant for the coast are simply built heavier on all of the above, which is why a Florida pole costs more than the same height in Ohio.
