The smallest scope on the job

A flagpole is a rounding error against the cost of a school. It is also the first thing photographed at the ribbon-cutting, the thing a veterans group will comment on, and a scope small enough that it gets priced by whoever answers the phone.

That is where it goes wrong. The pole gets written generically, three suppliers quote three different products against it, the cheapest wins, and nobody checks what the thing is actually rated for until the submittal comes back.

The point of the table is not the prices. It is that at almost every height there are half a dozen different poles, and they are not interchangeable — at 30 ft alone the range runs from $1,800 to $10,250 and from 50 mph to 150+ mph.

Which one belongs on your site depends on the wind speed adopted at that address, not on what is cheapest that week. That is the work we do before we quote, and it is the reason a programme is worth having: it gets decided once, correctly, and then it stops being a question.

Eder publishes these ratings as a steady wind speed with a 1.3 gust factor per ANSI/NAAMM FL 1001-07. That is not the same basis as the 3-second gust figure in a building code and the two cannot be compared directly, which is exactly why this is a selection problem rather than a price comparison.

Domestic content, documented. Every pole is made in the USA by Eder Flag, and a certificate of domestic origin comes on request — which is paperwork somebody has to produce on any federally funded project.
