25 ft for homes, HOA entrances and small businesses. 30 to 35 ft for schools, fire departments and county buildings. Waterfront sites get a heavier wall than the height alone would suggest.
The three counties between the Potomac, the Patuxent and the Chesapeake Bay: Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert, close to our Baltimore base. We cover Southern Maryland and the Charles, St. Mary’s and Calvert counties area, including Waldorf, La Plata and Indian Head in Charles County; Lexington Park, California, Leonardtown and St. Mary’s City in St. Mary’s County; Prince Frederick, Solomons, Chesapeake Beach, North Beach, Dunkirk and Huntingtown in Calvert County, and Naval Air Station Patuxent River.
Wind here. Southern Maryland sits in a Chesapeake and tidewater area, which Eder’s published wind map puts in the 90 mph zone. Eder rates every pole for a wind speed with the flag flying, matched to that map, so the zone decides how wide and how thick the pole has to be. We check it against your address before we quote. Southern Maryland reads 90 mph on Eder’s wind map from Waldorf to Point Lookout, but almost every job here is decided by how close the pole is to open water. A pole on the Route 301 corridor in Waldorf is a sheltered inland site. The same height on the Patuxent at Solomons, the Potomac at Indian Head or the Bay front at Chesapeake Beach has nothing to slow the wind for miles, so we leave more margin and often step up to a heavier wall. Salt air is the other factor: satin finishes chalk within a few years on the water, so we normally recommend anodized with stainless hardware. Tell us the address and we size the pole for that exact spot.
Most of the people who call us from Southern Maryland are county buildings, schools, volunteer fire departments, churches, marinas and waterfront homes, HOA entrances, retail on the Route 301 and Route 4 corridors, and Navy-adjacent contractors around Patuxent River and Indian Head.
What the local rules say about putting up a flagpole in Southern Maryland, from the official sources. Rules change, so we confirm them for your address before we quote, and we supply the drawings and specifications a permit application needs.
In Southern Maryland, a 90 mph wind zone, a 25 ft flagpole rated for that wind starts at about $2,450 for the pole (Eder ECX25), and a 30 ft one at about $3,300 (Eder ECXA30), in satin aluminum. Installation, the concrete foundation and the flag depend on your site, and we price all of it on one quote, usually the same day. Every pole and price is on our flagpoles page.
Most homes fly 20 to 25 ft, storefronts and offices 25 to 30 ft, and schools and public buildings 30 to 40 ft. The heights we fit most in Southern Maryland are 25 – 30 ft, always on a pole rated for the 90 mph wind zone with the flag flying.
