• The Piedmont and the foothills — A flat 115 mph from Charlotte through the Triad to the Triangle. Standard wall suits most sites, plus channelling between the uptown and downtown towers that no map shows.
• The Sandhills and coastal plain — 115 mph on the inner edge, 120 mph through the Sandhills, and 130 mph across most of the counties east of I-95. Open ground and sandy soil, so a heavier wall and a wider footing than the height alone would suggest.
• The coast and the Outer Banks — 130 to 150 mph, drawn along US 17 and the Intracoastal Waterway rather than a smooth contour.
