Alabama runs from the Tennessee Valley down to the Gulf, and a pole that is right at one end of it is the wrong pole at the other.
Wind here. Alabama is about 330 miles top to bottom and Eder's wind map climbs by around 50 mph over that distance. Florence, Decatur and Huntsville in the Tennessee Valley sit at 90 mph, the floor of the map, and so do Birmingham and the central counties. Montgomery and the Black Belt are at 100, Dothan and the Wiregrass at 110. Below that it climbs quickly: Brewton and Atmore are already in the 120 to 130 mph bands, Mobile is at 140, and the beaches from Dauphin Island round to Gulf Shores are at 140 and up. From Mobile south a heavy-wall or Hurricane-series pole is the default, with the address confirmed against Eder's chart. In the north half the map is the least of it: 90 mph is a straight-line figure, and what we actually specify against up there is open ground and spring storm season, not the contour on the map.

Where the wind map climbs to 140 mph, a sturdier 30 ft pole starts at about $6,880 (Eder ECH30).
