Flagpoles in Georgia

Headquarters campuses under the Atlanta canopy, a working port at Savannah and garrison towns in between. Everything lands on one quote: the pole, the foundation under it, the flag and the labour.

Wind here. Georgia is about 300 miles deep, from the mountain counties in the north to the sea, and the figure rises most of that way. Atlanta, Marietta and Alpharetta size to around 105 mph. The fall-line cities in the middle — Columbus, Macon and Augusta — run 110 to 115 mph, and so does Valdosta down near the Florida line. Savannah is 135 mph and Tybee Island at the mouth of the river reaches 140, with salt on top of both. What those inland numbers hide is Helene: still a hurricane when it crossed south Georgia in 2024, and taking trees down as far north as the mountain counties. An exposed inland site here is sized on its own, not off the map.

• The north Georgia Piedmont — Around 105 to 110 mph from the mountain counties down through metro Atlanta and Athens. The wind is rarely the hard part; a standard wall carries most of it. The canopy is. Where a pole can stand here is settled by what is growing over the spot and who has to approve taking it down.
• The fall line — Columbus, Macon and Augusta sit at 110 to 115 mph on the seam where Piedmont clay gives way to coastal-plain sand. The shaft barely changes across it. The footing does, because sand wants a broader hole than clay under the same pole.
• South Georgia and the Wiregrass — 110 to 120 mph from Albany across to Waycross and down to Valdosta, climbing as you get nearer the coast. Flat open farm country where a building stands on its own, so an exposed site is sized for open ground whatever the county figure reads.
• The coast and the Golden Isles — 125 to 140 mph, from St. Marys and Brunswick up through Savannah to Tybee Island, with salt over all of it. Heavy wall or Hurricane series, anodized finish, stainless hardware, and a hole sized for wet sand rather than dug to a standard depth.
