North Louisiana sizes gently. South of Alexandria the figure climbs fast, and in the bayou parishes it reaches 150 mph, the top band on Eder's wind map.

Wind here. Eder's wind map puts Shreveport and Monroe at 90 mph, and the figure barely moves across the northern parishes. It starts to step up around Alexandria, then it climbs: Baton Rouge at 110, Lafayette and Lake Charles at 120, Metairie and New Orleans at 130. Houma is 140, and the parishes below it reach the 150 mph band at Grand Isle and Port Fourchon. Eder's Hurricane series is rated to 150 mph with the flag flying, which matches the top of Eder's chart, so from Houma south heavy wall or the Hurricane series is the default and we confirm it against the address. The second half of the job is what the concrete sits in, which goes from firm terrace ground at Baton Rouge to sinking delta clay two hours downriver. Louisiana runs one construction code for the whole state, so it is the address, not the parish line, that settles the pole.

• The northern parishes — 90 mph on Eder's map from Shreveport across to Monroe, and it holds the whole way. Wall thickness is rarely the question up here. Ice on the flag and on the rope is, so the hardware matters more than the shaft does.
• Central Louisiana and the capital — Stepping up from 90 mph around Alexandria to 110 at Baton Rouge. An ordinary shaft wall still does the work. Coming south, the hole in the ground starts to cost more than the pole standing in it.
• Acadiana and the southwest — 120 mph on Eder's map at Lafayette and Lake Charles, and higher again below both, toward Vermilion Bay and the Calcasieu ship channel. Heavy wall from the outset, and anodized instead of a bare mill finish anywhere brackish water reaches.
• The delta and the bayou parishes — Metairie and New Orleans 130, Houma 140, and the 150 mph band by the time you reach Grand Isle. Eder's Hurricane series is rated to 150 mph with the flag flying, which matches this zone on Eder's chart, so from Houma down it is the default, confirmed against the address, on anodized shafts with stainless hardware.
