Florida writes its own building code, and the design wind speeds in it are the highest we work with anywhere. One quote covers the pole, the foundation, the flag and the labour, sized to the figure your county actually enforces.

Wind here. The numbers here cover more ground than in any state we work in. Tallahassee and the north Florida interior size to around 120 mph. Miami and Fort Lauderdale sit at around 170 mph, above the highest flag-flying rating anyone publishes, and the Keys are higher again. Near either coast the figure moves over a few miles rather than a few counties, so the adopted speed is looked up for the address before anything is quoted.

• The north Florida interior — Around 115 to 125 mph through Tallahassee and up to the Georgia line. The gentlest figures in the state, so more of the budget goes into height than into wall thickness.
• The northeast coast and the central peninsula — Around 130 to 140 mph from Jacksonville down through Orlando. Sheltered sites take a standard wall; open ground and new development do not.
• The Gulf coast and the Panhandle beaches — 140 to 160 mph through Tampa Bay, Sarasota and Pensacola, with salt on top of the wind. The upper half of that band is past every published flag-flying rating, so those sites are engineered rather than picked off a chart.
• Southwest Florida and the southeast — 165 mph and up through Naples, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. A published rating is not measured the same way a code figure is, so nothing here is sold as a pass; the pole and the footing are engineered for the address.
